Steve’s story

I guess you could say I grew up always feeling anxious. I don’t know why as I had a good upbringing and nothing I can remember ever triggered it off. Looking back now all I can say is I had an over active mind. Very overactive! For most of my youth I battled against extreme nervousness and negative thinking about myself. I would say I had a form of tourettes as I was always twitching and making noises.  I had a brother who seemed super confident and that made me think I was faulty in some way.

I remember struggling with friendships and I think people thought I was a strange kid. I used to cry when I thought about myself though to the public I could put on a good show, always acting the goat. I didn’t do well at school and hated every minute of it, usually getting into trouble. I struggled to relax and fought hard every day against the urge to twitch or make a stupid noise. I found certain social situations very daunting, especially walking through busy city centres or supermarkets. I would feel a panic attack coming on at the very thought of going somewhere like that. I had no idea what if anything I could do to change the way I felt. All the doctor wanted to do was give me anti depressants.

It wasn’t until I was out of my teens that I began reading psychology. The more I read the more I understood and the easier it became to control the way I felt. I was like a man possessed, I’d order 3 books a weeks and literally read them as soon as they arrived. Some books were worthless but some contained good information and I used it. It was around that time that I began my training as a hypnotherapist. Through the new knowledge and self hypnosis I began to totally change the way I thought and felt. For the first time in my life I actually felt relaxed and confident!

I soon became aware that the way I’d been taught to work with people wouldn’t work and I didn’t believe in the traditional methods either. Instead I began to draw upon what I’d learnt from the best books I’d read and what I’d used on myself to overcome my own difficulties and I started to use it with my clients. Almost instantly it started to pay off and my clients were feeling better faster. I was so excited yet I was exhausting myself telling every client what they needed to do to make the change! Something had to give.

I decided instead to put the knowledge into a book and only put inside of it the absolute best information and put it in a way that everyday people could understand. So that’s what I did. I’ve now come to view my past difficulties as a blessing as without them I couldn’t know how it feels to have fear and how to overcome it so I want to show you how you can overcome yours too. Without my past I would just be another therapist going through “the script”. Since writing the book I can honestly say I have only had positive responses from buyers!
